The Skywalk Gives You A Unique View Of The Grand Canyon

The Grand Canyon Skywalk is a new but controversial addition to attractions at the Grand Canyon. To some people, the Grand Canyon Skywalk is an eyesore, to others, it provides a great visitor experience and a much needed sourcer of income for the Hualapai Tribe.

Opening in March of 2007, the Skywalk took 2.5 years of hard work and $30 million dollars to complete. The Skywalk is not a National Park Service operation, it was built by the Hualapai Tribe.

Visitors to the Grand Canyon Skywalk will have to pay two different fees. The first fee is the $40.95 per person entrance fee to Grand Canyon West known as the Legacy Pass. The fee to access the Skywalk is $29.95 + tax per person.

The Legacy Pass provides you access to 3 other locations and shuttle bus rides between the locations. Locations include Eagle Point which is where the Skywalk is located. Eagle Point offers an anuthentic Indian village, gift shops, restaurants, and spectacular views of the Grand Canyon.

The second location is Guano Point which provides wonderful views of the Grand Canyon and Colorado River. There are also hiking trails along the rim of the canyon, a Hualapai barbeque, and mining artifacts.

Hualapai Ranch is the third destination. At the ranch you can watch cowboy demonstrations, take wagon rides, and stay overnight in cabins.

The Grand Canyon Skywalk is open everyday of the year, including holidays, from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. It is recommended that you plan on staying at least 3 hours to be able to walk on the Skywalk and to visit the other points of interest.

Be prepared to stand in line at the Grand Canyon Skywalk. Up to 120 people are allowed on the Skywalk at one time. The busiest times are weekdays between 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM. Once you are on the Skywalk, you can spend as much time there as you would like.

In order to protect the glass bridge from damage, personal items such as cameras, cell phones, strollers, purses, and backpacks are not allowed. Free lockers are provided to store your valuables.

The Grand Canyon Skywalk is wheelchair accessible and a ramp is provide for easy access.

As you can see, the Grand Canyon Skywalk is a very unique addition to the Grand Canyon. The bridge gives you a perspective of walking out over the edge of the canyon.

Many of the Grand Canyon tour companies have added the Grand Canyon Skywalk and Grand Canyon West destinations as part of their services. The West Rim has become a very popular tour destination due to its close proximity to Las Vegas and the ability of the tour companies to land helicopters at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
